Dear Yuletide Writer 2018
Oct. 14th, 2018 03:17 pmWelcome, Yuletide writer and anyone else wandering by! My AO3 name is Aeriel, and I love all these canons, so no matter which we have in common, I'm excited. Generally speaking I'm open to stories of all ratings, gen, f/f, m/m or f/m. I have mostly been using my LJ and DW for letter writing for various exchanges which may or may not be of use to you (see the exchange letter and yuletide tags) as I've not been extremely active this year or really, the last several years for a variety of personal reasons.
Some general DNWs that may or may not be likely to come up in the contexts of these fandoms: body horror, public humiliation, cancer and other long-term serious illness, graphic non-con/rape, characters getting dumped 'for their own good', zombies, cruelty to animals, characters aggressively pursuing someone romantically who genuinely has no interest in them.
Chronicles of Amber- Roger Zelazny
Deirdre, Corwin
I'm very fond of Corwin as narrator and in general, and I really wished we could have gotten more of Deirdre than canon gave us (and I hate only realizing I ship something when one half abruptly dies!) so I would be delighted to receive a story that focuses on them, or on one of them with the other in a supporting role. With all those centuries, even before Corwin's stint as an amnesiac on Earth there's a lot of time canon didn't cover or barely glossed over in which adventures, learning experiences and heartbreaks must have been happening. It's mentioned that just about all of the siblings have studied medicine at one time or another in various places over the centuries, and presumably that's also true of several other fields. Did they ever learn from each other, intentionally or otherwise (because one's knowledge was outdated or specific to one area of Shadow, because one simply had more detailed specific understanding of the relevant topic in a crisis etc) or for that matter, did Deirdre and/or Corwin ever take lessons together or accidentally happen to be in the same class as one of their other siblings? There's also mentions of all the siblings growing up learning about how to manipulate Shadow and walk the Pattern eventually, and I'd also be interested in more about that, even if Corwin and Deirdre weren't interested in Dworkin's teachings in the way Fiona and Brand were.
For relationships, Deirdre/Corwin is canon and as mentioned before I do ship it, so I'd be very pleased to receive anything touching on or exploring that if you'd like to write it. When did they cross the threshold from brother and sister to lovers, if you will? Was there a period when they were happy, before Oberon found out and made his disapproval clear? Were there reactions from their other siblings (particularly Eric and Flora-- why is it Deirdre and Flora used to clash, anyway?) of any sort or were they all busy with their own affairs/not particularly surprised or inclined to make judgements either way? I'm particularly interested in Deirdre's side of things since for obvious reasons we largely got her through Corwin's eyes. I'd also be pleased with pre-romantic relationship dynamics, UST-laden or just childhood mischievousness... with the understanding that since it's these characters, childhood mischievousness might mean 'the time they briefly set their new stepmother on fire' or whatever.
I would rather not receive a story focusing heavily on Deirdre's canonical death-- stories set before then or handwaving it would be my preference at this time.
Darkangel Trilogy- Meredith Ann Pierce
Irrylath, Oriencor
So I love Irrylath dearly, even if he's not exactly the nicest person to be around all the time, particularly if you're either of his cousins. I've requested Irrylath and Oriencor because I'm interested in how Irrylath became a darkangel and/or how he dealt with the reality of what happened to him-- and how badly he was betrayed-- after becoming human again and regaining all his memories. Aeriel doesn't really begin to grasp the full scope of it until the end of A Gathering of Gargoyles, but Irrylath's obviously been struggling with it since the very end of the first book, and I think it's really understandable that he doesn't feel comfortable enough opening up about the sexual abuse until he's had some space to figure it out at least a little bit for himself.
I would rather not receive any graphic sex scenes between Oriencor and young Irrylath, though I certainly don't mind allusions to that aspect of their relationship, because that's such a part of the hold she has on him. I would also rather not receive any Irrylath/Sabr, though Irrylath/Aeriel is fine, if you'd prefer to focus on the post-darkangel period.
Kushiel's Legacy- Jacqueline Carey
Edmee de Rocaille, Isabel L'Envers
Since unfortunately all we know about Edmee we know from the perspective of others, I'd love to get her own perspective on Anafiel, Rolande and/or Isabel. Was she contented with her engagement? Or, what if Edmee survived the riding accident or otherwise ended up actually married to Rolande? Would it have worked out as well as Anafiel imagined, or would frictions have started to develop between the three? And where would that have left Isabel?
As for Isabel (whose perspective I would be equally delighted to receive!) what's driving her? Pure ambition, or petty dislike, or obsessive love, or something else? What would it have been like if Isabel survived and Anafiel had to live working out his promise to protect Ysandre while either still tangling with her mother or eventually coming to a wary understanding?
For ships, I'm pretty open to anything: Anafiel/Rolande, Rolande/Edmee, Rolande/Isabel, hell, Edmee/Isabel if you're got an idea for how it could work, or anything else involving characters of that era.
I would rather not receive any long-term pining or cold/harsh rejection of love confessions.
Peau d'Âne | Donkey Skin - Charles Perrault
Peau d'Âne | Donkey Skin
I vacillated a little between asking for this version or All-Kinds-Of-Fur and I do suggest you look at both, the differences are really interesting! Ultimately I went with Donkey Skin because the relationship between Donkey Skin and the prince seemed a little more... reciprocated? And I personally would like to think that Donkey Skin ultimately ends up in a happy marriage, not just in a marriage that's... better than being forced to marry her father. However I do like her wearing her dresses to balls (and just... getting some use out of the dresses is more interesting to me than princely peeping) so feel free to mix and match elements from both versions if you like.
Ultimately I'm interested in a variety of retellings and/or explorations of character here. Maybe the prince who falls for Donkey Skin is actually a princess? Maybe Donkey Skin runs away to a country so far away that she has to deal with culture shock and/or a new language? Maybe the king comes to Donkey Skin's wedding and she doesn't forgive him? Maybe it takes place under the sea or in the skies? In a steampunk setting or a high fantasy one?
Also, although I certainly don't mind exploring the darker elements of the story, I would prefer an ultimately happy/hopeful ending.
