Dear Summer of Horror Writer
May. 31st, 2022 12:04 amHello! My AO3 name is Aeriel and thank you for even considering writing for me! Generally speaking I'm open to stories of all ratings, gen, f/f, m/m or f/m. I have mostly been using my DW journal for letter writing for various exchanges which may or may not be of use to you, and I haven't been terribly active at that.
Horror-specific likes: I'm not at all opposed to violence in horror, but violence in and of itself isn't usually what I like my horror to focus on. I generally find the tension of possible violence much more frightening than an orgy of bloody deeds, though a well-placed act of surprising violence can also be super effective. (Please no graphic eye trauma, fingernail trauma, amputation or branding though, unless you're referencing Imriel's canonical branding) Creeping horror and unease, questions about what's real and what's just in your head and relationships that seem good at first but slowly deteriorate or are revealed to have been build on a foundation of lies, especially if it's still hard or impossible to sever that tie in the end. Also, I mean, I'm always up for making one or more characters vampires... (Melisande would be an excellent vampire)
Misc inspirations: My favorite horror movies include The Innocents (1961), The Hunger (1983), Cat People (1942) and I Walked With A Zombie (1943) and I love Edward Gorey's work. I also have fond memories of the Roger Corman film versions of Masque of the Red Death and Fall of the House of Usher, and I pretty much always watch The Mummy (1932) start to finish if it's available (I also enjoy the 90s remakes, but the original leans in harder to themes of being haunted by the past and reincarnation romance as horror, which is also a thing I really liked in Coppola's 1992 Dracula adaptation)
DNWs: body horror, eye trauma, fingernail trauma, amputation, branding (the kind involving hot irons), public humiliation, addiction in general but especially involving alcohol/drugs (I don't mind characters having a casual drink once or twice), cancer and other long-term serious illness, graphic non-con/rape (references to characters having been assaulted/raped in the past are acceptable, particularly if the assault is a canon fact, I'm also ok with implied/fade to black sexual assault), characters getting dumped 'for their own good', zombies, cruelty to animals, characters aggressively pursuing someone romantically who genuinely has no interest in them, pandemics and plagues.

Alcuin nó Delaunay & Phèdre nó Delaunay
When requesting Alcuin, I usually ask for an AU where he survives, but I'm willing to make an exception for this exchange: what if Alcuin lingers after death as a ghost, haunting Phèdre either through actual visitations or through ambiguous dreams and moments? What if Phèdre actually isn't sure if she's being haunted by Alcuin or something just using his face and/or voice? What if Alcuin returns, but he comes back subtly wrong? Or what if Phèdre herself is having a weird unsettling near-death experience and Alcuin's spirit shows up to help guide her back to the earthly Terre d'Ange?
Or what if Alcuin survived the attack on Delaunay's townhouse, but not without some terrible cost, perhaps as a result of one of the gods deciding to use him for their own purposes? (Camael or Kushiel changing his nature to give Alcuin a taste for violence/punishment?) There's always been a subtle element of horror to Kushiel's influence on Phèdre's life, so I'd also just love to see an exploration of that from her (with or without her as unreliable narrator) or the outside POV of Alcuin observing the burdens of being Kushiel's Chosen, or with Alcuin being burdened in his own way giving Phèdre an additional angle to consider the existential terror of being a god's tool.
Imriel de la Courcel & Melisande Shahrizai
My initial thought was an AU where Melisande "wins" in some way, and either gets to raise Imriel from infancy or manages her scheme of eventually plucking him out of obscurity and using him to win the throne. In any case, a scenario where Imriel grows up influenced by and adoring his mother, either not aware of or not overly troubled by all the lives sacrificed at the altar of Melisande's ambition. Maybe he starts to have nightmares about people he's never met who once lived in the palace (Ysandre, Rolande, Isabel, or perhaps even Delaunay?). Maybe he starts having visions of bloody walls and corpses. Maybe Kushiel wants him to rise up against his mother. Maybe he takes a wrong turn one evening and finds Phèdre in a padded dungeon cell, surrounded by luxurious things but looking utterly sad and defeated. Maybe he even has a sister called Alais or Sidonie, who doesn't really resemble him but who Melisande swears is his blood relation. (I totally encourage a weird gothic scenario where Imriel and Sidonie still are attracted to each other but Imriel thinks they're siblings instead of cousins and Sidonie knows they're not but has her own reasons for not telling him... yet)
That said, I'm also very much open to post-canon horror or more milder canon divergences for this request! I realize I mostly wrote Imriel-centric prompts but I'm absolutely open to Melisande POV as well, to be clear!
As far as shipping, I've given mainly gen prompts and don't want romance between either of my nominated relationships, but feel free to include Melisande/Phèdre, Phèdre/Joscelin, Phèdre/Nicola and/or Imriel/Sidonie as well as mentions of past Alcuin/Delaunay and/or any other canon relationships or assignations. I'm also open to any non-canon ship for Alcuin that I've requested or written in the past. However, I do want Alcuin & Phèdre or Imriel & Melisande to be the primary focus of the story.

Kurama | Minamino Shuichi (YuYu Hakusho) & Medicine Seller (Mononoke)
So my first thought was the Medicine Seller crossing paths with Kurama in the bad old days when he was still thieving and feared far and wide, but I'd also be very interested to see the Medicine Seller in the 1990s, investigating a disturbance at the same time as Kurama (one that may or may not involve Kurama himself directly). What might Kurama make of the Medicine Seller? Would he already be known to Kurama as a myth/legend/folk rumor even if he'd never actually met him? I don't think Kurama's nature would trouble the Medicine Seller, but it might be inconvenient if it came up say, with him and Kurama trapped in a situation involving Kurama's human classmates/coworkers/casual acquaintances that he doesn’t particularly want knowing that he’s actually a fox (and/or a reformed master criminal). Would Kurama be motivated to assist the Medicine Seller in pursuit of truth and reason, or potentially hinder him out of suspicion or self-interest?”

Medicine Seller (Mononoke)
Does the Medicine Seller ever encounter anyone else like him, or pretending to be like him with a more wicked agenda? Or perhaps you could show him in a different era from the ones we see him in canonically, since we know that time marches on but he doesn't seem to change… it’d be interesting to see him in an earlier time (in the chaos of the Sengoku period, coming through after a recent battle? Or in the Heian era, perhaps lurking around the fringes of banished nobles or crossing paths with historical figures like Abe no Seimei?) or to see him closer to the present, reappearing amidst the post-WWII devastation in a bombed-out city (though please, not Hiroshima or Nagasaki) or later still, in the shadows of the economic boom and slump of early Heisei era in the 90s.
For art, I do love beautiful colors and design textures like in the anime, but I also really love dramatically well-placed shadows and shading, in greyscale as well as in color. If you’re familiar at all with Julia Lepetit’s work, I adore what she does with lighting and shadows, and I think some ominous, spooky light/shadow stuff would work really nicely for the Medicine Seller’s character and/or whatever mononoke he might be facing if you’re up for that. I also am a big fan of artistic bloodstains/dripping blood motifs, so feel free to run with that (I’d just ask for no exposed intestines or brains or other visible organs, but bone and bones are fine).
I find all sorts of youkai and other Japanese supernatural phenomena intriguing and I'm always up for learning about new ones as well as reading about old favorites but if you're at all wondering where to start I'd love a story featuring kitsune or inugami (you may allude to animal harm with this one, though I'd prefer no graphic descriptions) or tatarimokke or ikiryō or ungaikyō.
Special Mononoke DNW: anything to do with nuclear war/fallout or specific actual historical wartime atrocities, no pro-Imperial Japan rhetoric or unironic nationalism from sympathetic characters, including (in art) imagery of the imperial flag or strong military themes. Also no images of Hiroshima or Nagasaki or any associated landmarks. I would also ask that you avoid depicting in art any recent natural disasters, such as 3/11.
I'm fine with ambiguous or unhappy endings for these requests providing it's not a last minute bait-and-switch sort of thing where everything is leading towards a hopeful ending and then bam, everyone's dead/evil, surprise! Uplifting/hopeful endings are also fine.
Horror-specific likes: I'm not at all opposed to violence in horror, but violence in and of itself isn't usually what I like my horror to focus on.
